Street Superintendent/Parks Director

The City of Marion (pop. 1324) is currently accepting applications for a full-time Street Superintendent/Parks Director. 

The Street Superintendent/Parks Director performs multiple municipal functions related to public facilities, parks, pond, streets, and sidewalks.  This position oversees the public works staff (currently 2 full-time employees) and reports to the Mayor and Common Council.  Applicants must be able to exercise independent judgment without close supervision and communicate clearly both orally and in writing.

The successful applicant must possess experience and basic skills in several areas such as carpentry, plumbing, hydraulics, welding, electricity, and vehicle maintenance.  They must also demonstrate solid driving skills, including the ability to perform snowplowing assignments, and possess the ability to operate a variety of tools, vehicles and equipment.

This position is also responsible for various administrative/managerial duties, including planning for long-term maintenance programs, forecasting improvements, preparing and adhering to, the annual street and park budgets, and attending monthly committee and council meetings.  They must be able to utilize Microsoft Office (Word) and email.  Good customer service skills are essential.  

Applicants are required to pass pre-employment drug screening and background checks and will be required to possess a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or qualify to possess a CDL within 6 months of hire.
